Proxxon MF70 CNC Mill : Full CAD – CAM – MILLING process for an alluminum key chain gift
Hi, Here is a short video showing the full process of making an alluminum key chain gift. I used my proxxon MF-70 converted to CNC to mill some 6060 alluminum using 2mm, 1.5mm and 1mm end mills. The part was then sanded and filled with low viscosity epoxy. Dye was added to give a nice color and some flakes from the milling process to give a “metalic” look to the color. The cnc controller is Mach3. it does a very nice job, and runs on a very old pentum-3 laptop. A blue timer is glued to the vacume’s nozzle and shows that total milling time was around 2 hours.
this video is a clip of me turning an inside taper on a L timing belt pulley to fit the oddball treadmill motor shaft i received. It nudged me in the direction of making a Lathe conversion for my G0704 mill which was already CNC’d. I setup Mach3 Machturn and configured the X and Z axis as a lathe and turned the mill spindle on its side as you will see in the video and trammed everything square. I am using a 4″ 3 jaw chuck which i purchased from Shars tools on sale for , along with their quick change tool post kit. other tooling i purchased to use in turning was the boring bar, some turning tools with indexable tool bits, and a parting tool. This is a new Hafco HM-52 manual metal knee mill converted to CNC (Computer Numericaly Controlled) The job is a 3D face cut out of soft wood. Firstly a 6mm end mill roughed out the basic shape.
