As opposed to my previous project, for the neck pocket, pickup cavities, and tremolo cavity, I ran them all on the same program. On the last job I wanted to make sure everything worked fine before I combined the programs. Also, different from the last job, I’m using offset cutting instead of raster cutting. I think the movements are a bit smoother, and since the but is always climb-cutting, the bit seems to “but better” and I hear less noise. It also might be a bit faster.

Grinding a cam for a model internal combustion engine can be a tough job. Using a computer controlled cam grinder is an attractive alternative to hand filing cam lobes, assembling multipart camshafts or building a complicated mechanical grinding machine. Joe Martin has created a CNC (Computer Numeric Control) cam grinder using mostly off-the-shelf Sherline machine tool parts along with a g-code program he developed himself. This video details the production of a cam for a Howell V-4 engine being produced by the Joe Martin Foundation Craftsmanship Museum. this is the emmegi diamant, the latest acquisition of our company. i was transferred here right after it was installed by the dealer. i was responsible for tool settings and further calibrations. i have to give credit to Marwan,the dealer’s technician for teaching me how to calibrate these emmegi cnc machines. this machine,like the phantomatic t5, can mill different kinds of profile,with diferrent programs at the same time, provided you use the cam and editor. if you use the camplus and job,you can mill various programs at one time but with one kind of profile. you can can load various profiles in the job but the drill will load your chosen profile and load the next kind of profile after.but of course, the camplus and job has a higher degree of graphics than the cam and editor. you can also adjust the degree of the spindle with camplus in which the cam has no control of. on this video, we are milling gutmann 167885 profiles. these are the same profiles used for the world’s largest clock, the abraj al bait tower. these profiles are being also being used for our next project, the tower k. we are still uncertain of what will be the official name of the tower.
